National Institute of Food Technology, Entrepreneurship and Management – Thanjavur (NIFTEM-T)

The National Institute of Food Technology, Entrepreneurship, and Management—Thanjavur (NIFTEM-T) is a premier academic institution in India dedicated to the advancement of food technology and management education. PhD Holders from NIFTEM-T have diverse career opportunities in the food industry, including roles in research and development, quality assurance, food safety, production management, and entrepreneurship. They can work in food processing companies, government agencies, and research institutions, or as consultants, or start their own ventures in the food sector.
Half Time Research Assistantship (HTRA)* i) HTRA is available for 10 eligible students in each PhD discipline per batch. However, if the number of eligible students is less than 10 in a particular PhD discipline, or less than 30 in a particular batch, then the HTRA shall be extended to other PhD disciplines/batch respectively. The maximum number of HTRA beneficiaries at any point of time in the Institute shall not exceed 150. The Institute reserves all rights to decide the number of HTRA awards.ii) The HTRA fellowship amount to the PhD Scholars to Rs. 37,000 + HRA per month for the first two years and Rs. 42,000 + HRA per month for the next three years as per the OM F.No.12-2/2023-U1 dated 11 September 2023 of Department Higher Education, Ministry of Education, Government of India.iii) The eligibility is based on admission merit of the student in a particular PhD discipline.iv) HTRA is tenable for the period, upto maximum of 5 years, from the date of commencement of classes, till the date of submission of the doctoral thesis whichever is earlier and is not extendable under any circumstances.v) The grant of HTRA is subject to the condition that the student does not receive any financial assistance in the form of scholarship, any emoluments, salary, stipend, etc. from any other source during his/her course of study in the Institute.vi) Foreign students, sponsored candidates and candidates admitted in doctoral programmes through management quota, if any, are not eligible for the Scholarship.MoFPI Doctoral Fellowship*i) The fellowship may be provided upto 12 eligible students for each PhD disciplines. However, if the number of eligible students is less than 12 in a particular discipline, then it shall be extended to other PhD disciplines with the maximum of 36 students per batch.ii) The MoFPI Doctoral Fellowship amount is Rs.29,600/- per month for the first two years and Rs.33,600/- per month for the next one year.iii) The fellowship starts from the date of commencement of classes to 36 months, or till the date of submission of thesis, whichever is earlier.iv) The fellowship enhancement for the third year will be implemented in line with the guidelines followed in other INI institutes .v) The eligibility shall be purely on merit basis, i.e. based on the overall admission rank. * The mode and procedure of payment of fellowship to the students shall be governed by the policy decision of NIFTEM-T as may be notified from time to time.
International students seeking admission to NIFTEM-T need to obtain a student visa to study in India. The institute provides assistance and guidance in the visa application process, ensuring compliance with all necessary regulations and requirements.
