Charles Darwin University

Charles Darwin University (CDU) is a dynamic and innovative institution located in the Northern Territory of Australia. Established in 2003, CDU was formed through the merger of several educational institutions, including the Northern Territory University, Centralian College of Alice Springs, Katherine Rural College, the University College of the Northern Territory, and the Menzies School of Health Research. This rich heritage has shaped CDU into a comprehensive and forward-thinking university, committed to providing high-quality education and research opportunities.

Named after the renowned naturalist Charles Darwin, the university reflects a strong dedication to scientific inquiry, exploration, and innovation. CDU offers a diverse range of programs across disciplines such as arts, education, engineering, health, and environmental sciences. With a strong focus on Indigenous knowledge and engagement, CDU fosters a culturally inclusive environment that values diversity and community.

The university’s research initiatives tackle critical global and regional issues, including climate change, sustainable development, and social justice, contributing meaningfully to both local and international communities. Strategically located across Darwin, Alice Springs, and other regional centers, CDU provides students with unique opportunities to connect with the Northern Territory’s rich cultural and natural landscapes. Its commitment to innovation, community engagement, and transformative education makes CDU a leading institution in Australia and beyond.

These scholarships include dedicated opportunities for Indigenous students and those from disadvantaged backgrounds, reflecting CDU’s commitment to inclusive education. 2025 RTP Scholarship Round Now Open Applications are now open for the 2025 Research Training Program (RTP) Scholarship Round—a competitive and prestigious opportunity for both domestic* and international students. Successful candidates will commence their HDR programs between 12 January and 27 March 2025. Eligible students may receive tax-free stipend scholarships of up to AU$34,190 per annum (2025 rate) to support full-time study and living costs. Most RTP scholarships also include a tuition fee waiver valued between AU$ 31,135 and AU$ 33,705 per annum, and may offer a relocation allowance to assist with the transition to Darwin or other CDU campuses. These benefits make CDU an affordable and accessible choice for pursuing advanced research degrees in Australia. Gain Industry Experience Through HDR Internships To further enrich the research journey, CDU encourages students to participate in its HDR Internship Program. This program offers 3–6-month industry placements, enabling students to apply their research skills in real-world settings, enhance employability, and build valuable networks. Students undertaking eligible internships may receive an additional monthly stipend of AU$ 3,000, providing both financial and professional benefits. With a research income of AU$68 million in 2023 and a place among the top 200 universities globally for research and impact, CDU provides an inspiring and supportive environment for researchers. Its commitment to collaboration, innovation, and global relevance makes CDU an ideal destination for HDR students aiming to make a difference through research. Domestic applicants are Australian citizens, Australian Permanent Residents, or New Zealand citizens.
