What is the FPM at MDI Gurugram?

 

The Fellow Programme in Management (FPM) at the Management Development Institute (MDI) Gurugram is a doctoral-level research programme that is equivalent to PhD qualification. It is for individuals who want to pursue research, teach, or consult in management and related areas. 

 

The programme will mostly be residential or full-time and will normally require three to four years for completion. The FPM will include some coursework, a comprehensive qualifying examination, followed by an independent research project consisting of a one-thesis and viva-voce. MDI offers both Residential and Non-Residential tracks to meet the needs of both full-time scholars and experienced professionals.

Eligibility Criteria and Financial Support

Eligibility Criteria

To promote the diversity of its students while maintaining high academic standards, MDI Gurugram enrolls candidates from a wide range of educational and professional backgrounds. For the 2025 enrolment, candidates must meet the below eligibility requirements: 

  • Master’s Degree Route: A Master’s degree in any discipline with a minimum of 60% marks (First Division) or an equivalent grade point average recognized by AICTE/AIU, after completion of a Bachelor’s degree (10+2+3 pattern).
  • Integrated Master’s Route: A five-year Integrated Master’s programme in any subject with a minimum of 60% marks (First Division) after completion of higher secondary schooling (10+2).
  • Professional Qualification Route: A graduate degree with CA / ICWA / CS, with a minimum of 60% marks or equivalent grade point average.
  • Further Academic Requirement: A minimum of 50% marks in 10th, 12th and Bachelor’s degree in all routes.

Program-Specific Condition

FPM (Residential):

  • Any candidate who is appearing in his/her final examinations may also apply.
  • They must finish their degree before June 30, 2025 and submit original degree certificates before September 30, 2025.
  • Upper age limit: 50 years.

FPM (Non-Residential):

  • Minimum age: 35 years. 
  • As of the application deadline, minimum of 10 years of work experience in a managerial/senior position.

Financial Support

To enable doctoral researchers to devote their time to academic study and inquiry free from financial pressures, MDI Gurugram provides significant financial support for scholars. The amount of fellowship support is dependent on the student’s profile and academic performance. 

Monthly Fellowship/Scholarship:

  • FPM researchers receive a monthly scholarship of ₹60,000. The fellowship is available for a maximum period of four years for non-MBA scholars and for three years for MBA scholars.

Contingency Grant:

  • Each FPM scholar is provided a total contingency grant of ₹1,50,000, which can be used for fieldwork, purchasing books, data collection, and other academic activities/resources. 

Conference Grant:

  • A total of ₹4,00,000 is provided in a conference grant for the duration of the programme, to support participation in national and international conferences, workshops, and paper presentations. 

Fee Waivers:

  • All school-related tuition and fees (Tuition Fee, Reading Material Fee, Student Welfare Fee and Library Fee) are waived for all FPM scholars. This amount is inclusive of any full scholarship or academic support and services provided by MDI Gurugram. 

Accommodation: 

  • The institution provides semi-furnished studio apartments to residential FPM students (single and married) on a first-come, first-served basis as housing permits and institute’s policy. In case the housing options become limited, the brains will be permitted to arrange for accommodation off-campus. 

Performance Requirement:

  • All grants and fellowships are subject to satisfactory academic progress and existing programme norms.

Selection Process

The process of admission and selection to the FPM at MDI Gurugram aims to find individuals who have strong research capabilities and possible success in an academic career.

Standard Test Requirements:

  • Applicants are required to submit valid scores for one of the following standard tests – CAT, GMAT, GRE, UGC-JRF, or GATE, that is valid as on the date of admission.

Shortlisting:

Interview:

Waiver:

  • Full-time two-year PGP alumni from either MDI Gurugram or any IIMs, XLRI or FMS may have the standard test score waived.
